Why Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, aka Minotauro is so good

by Scott on September 26, 2008

This is actually an easy question.

In a recent interview, after beating Tim Sylvia, he said this…

“I knew he was going to turn back into me.  I always train in submission combinations; it makes it easier for me.”

He trains in combinations on the ground.

That’s why Eddie Bravo’s systems are so good.

They are just that, systems.

You just plug an opponent in, and you get a predictable result (most of the time).

Many people train haphazard and look for the sub that comes up then try to muscle that sub in.

The smart grappler takes that instance in time as a set up to a new move that they are not attacking.

This goes right back into another blog post I made.

The secret is in the training method.

Speaking of training method…

This is the reason he has such a hard time against Barnett.

Barnett’s base style, catch wrestling, is all about training subs in combinations.

So that when Minotauro when for a sub, Barnett had probably already seen and trained it that way before.

It was a beautiful match of back and forth grappling.

So what’s the point here?

Train smart!

We do this in my martial arts classes in Tigard (and in my Tigard fitness boot camps some of the time).

If it works for Minotauro, why wouldn’t it work for you?
