The Sneaky Spin Kick Artist Should Be Feared

by Scott

A person with a great spin kick should be feared. This is because the spin kick can do a lot of damage to an unsuspecting opponent. A person with a great spin kick who can hide it inside other strikes is someone to definitely fear. If you find one of these people then you should attempt to learn as much as you can from them. If they can hide that shot (typically a difficult shot to set up) then they know how to hide a number of other damaging shots.

The sneaky spin kick artist is a person who is known as a sniper. This person who can pick apart other fighters, and is (and should be) one of the most feared styles of fighters that you can confront. They look for openings and pick you apart. They don’t even have to see what you do before you engage them; they make the adjustment on the fly and pick you apart from there. A great example of this type of fighter is two of the greatest fighters ever, GSP and Andersen Silva. Both are guys who are snipers and strangely enough, they both possess spin kicks that are effective. If you find a guy who throws a spin kick well, then you are probably looking at a sniper.

However, not every spin kicker is a sniper. For example, Cung Le is not a sniper. Cung Le is more of a swatter/tank. He doesn’t look for openings as much as the other two fighters. He really looks for combinations more than openings. He is very effective at overwhelming his opponent with a high volume of attacks that put the opponent on their heels.

A lot of the UFC fighters who are using spin kicks are actually tanks who happen to try it inside a fight. It works because the spin kick is still foreign to MMA fighters. Once, it becomes more practiced it won’t be as effective for 95 percent of the fighters. It will be hyper effective for those who know how to hide it well and use it at the correct times. You want to be in that category. You want to be skilled with a spin kick. You can gain a great advantage if you train right and get this all together.

If you have a spin kick in your arsenal, then you should keep it. If you don’t have one, then you should train it. Once, you have a spin kick, and then you need to learn to hide it effectively in your own style. You need to learn how to use it in a realistic fashion against a skilled resistant opponent. This will teach you when and where to put in your spin kick for maximum damage and safety for yourself. Many people can throw a spin kick; however, very few can throw it safely against a resisting opponent. You want to be someone very skilled and smart about how you throw your spin kick. Training is the key and if you train smart, you will become a feared opponent.
